DAY 1 - SANTIAGO DE CHILE

WELCOME TO CHILE'S CAPITAL

Upon landing in Santiago de Chile, our local representative will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. ‘Santiago is Chile’ say the Santiaguinos, and a visit to this great city will show you why. Located in central Chile, backed by the Andes to the east the city was founded in 1541 in the fertile valley in which it sits. After settling in your hotel, you´ll have the remainder of the day to explore at leisure.

Santiago is Chile’s cultural, commercial, industrial, and political center. A cosmopolitan city, with ample restaurants, bars, hotels, and shopping, from tiny boutique and craft fairs to giant shopping malls. There are cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet, lively nightlife, plus parks, tree-lined streets, and distinct neighborhoods. You’ll see brand new high rises and large supermarkets next to old, shabby buildings. You’ll have to fend off vendors and peddlers on the busses but ride in peace and comfort on the ultra-modern subway system.

Included: Transfer from Santiago airport to your hotel; accommodation in Santiago. (Meals – None)

Day 3 - SANTIAGO TO PUERTO MONTT / PUERTO VARAS

TRAVEL TO CHILE'S LAKE REGION

Upon landing in Puerto Montt, our local representative will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel in Puerto Varas. The city of Puerto Montt is the gateway to the enchantment of Southern Chile and the stepping off point to the Chilean Lake District and the ‘Emerald Island’ of Chile.

Named after Manuel Montt, Chilean president when Puerto Montt was established in 1853, the port city is the capital of Region XX, Los Lagos. As such, it is the center of commercial fishing, agriculture, and tourism and is imbued with the culture and architecture of early German settlers. German immigrants settled the Lake District in the late 1800s and the towns reflect their influence in the architecture of their buildings.

To the west and south of Puerto Montt is the island of Chiloe. It is like another world from Chile as it is physically separated from it by the Gulf of Corcovado. The culture on Chiloe developed for over 400 years in isolation from the influence of the mainland. It is fascinating and allows visitors to step back in time to a simpler way of life. The Humbolt Current, rich in marine life, flows along its western coast. The island is abundant in birdlife and has its own unique ecosystem.

Puerto Varas is a charming city on the shores of Lake Llanquihue and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Spectacular views across the lake at majestic snow-capped volcanoes surrounded in native forest abound as well as countless options for exploring the surrounding countryside adorned with picture-perfect German-settled farms. Only 15 minutes from Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas is popular because it is quieter than the busy port city to the south.

Included: Private transfer from your hotel to Santiago airport: Private transfer from Puerto Montt airport to Puerto Varas; Accommodation in Puerto Varas. (Meals – Breakfast)

Leaving Puerto Varas with an English-speaking guide, the lakeside drive to our destination promises spectacular views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. On reaching the Ensenada, you’ll ascend to the Osorno Centro de Ski y Montaña, located at a whopping 1,240 meters above sea-level. You’ll spend around an hour here, giving you plenty of time to take in the panoramic vistas up to the summit of the volcano and Calbuco, known as the glaciers of eternal snow. The clear Andean skies will also treat you to exceptional views of the snowcapped Calbuco, the sparkling Lake Llanquihue, and the endless Pacific Ocean, so be sure to keep your camera handy. If you’re still craving splendid scenery, you can choose to take the lift up to Station Primavera (1450m) or Station Glacier (1750m), both offering breathtaking views.

DAY 7 - PUERTO NATALES TO TORRES DEL PAINE

FULL DAY TREKKING IN PATAGONIA

No trip to Chile is complete without a trip to Torres del Paine, easily one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. During this full-day group trip, you’ll be collected from your hotel in Puerto Natales and transferred into the Patagonian wilderness of Torres del Paine National Park. Your first stop is the ancient Cueva del Milodon, where it is believed that some cavemen lived in Patagonia, as well as the Milodon, an extinct animal that once roamed these mountains.

Next, you’ll continue to explore the otherworldly landscapes of this giant Biosphere Reserve. Covering a whopping 2400 square kilometers, Torres del Paine National Park is an awe-inspiring collection of lakes, ponds, waterfalls, glaciers, and mountains, so be sure to keep your camera close at hand. The stunning scenery is dotted with incredible wildlife, including grazing herds of guanacos. You’ll pass by the emerald Lake Nordenskjold, framed by snow-capped peaks, and stroll along the frozen shores of the River Ping. In the background, you’ll see the glistening Grey Glacier rising between the endless forests and hills.

Depending on where you´ll stay inside Torres del Paine we are arranging the corresponding transfers to get you to your lodge.

Declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1978, the Torres del Paine National Park (situated in the Magallanes 12th region in Chile) is internationally recognized as one of the most beautiful, unique, and uncontaminated places on the planet.

It’s a land of lakes, rivers, waterfalls, glaciers, forests and incredible wildlife, all of which make it an exciting destination for wildlife observers and adventure sports enthusiasts alike.

One of the principal attractions of the park is the Macizo (Massif) of Paine, formed predominately from granite and whose origin dates back millions of years. The most famous peaks of the park are called the ‘Cuernos’ (horns) and ‘Torres’ (towers) of Paine.

As this region contains a large part of the southern ice sheet, it is one of the best places anywhere to see glaciers. Visitors are drawn from all over the world to see the Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers, the latter of which has become a very visible symbol of global warming due to the rate at which it is receding.

Included: Group excursion of Torres del Paine with entrance fees; Accommodation in Torres del Paine. (Meals – Breakfast)
