South America’s National Drinks

Sometimes, the best way to get to know a country is through your tastebuds. Latin America has all kinds of delicious treats on offer for both food and drink. There are a few staples that you’ll just have to try when you visit us down here, so let’s get you familiar with a few of the drinks that reign supreme in some of our top destinations.

Argentina’s Malbec

As the top Malbec producing region in the world, Mendoza is a must for wine lovers. This grape, brought over from France, really benefits from the area’s high altitude in the Luján de Cuyo region and the Uco Valley. They’ve attracted world wide attention from top critics and regularly take home coveted awards. Our tours give you the full Mendoza experience. You’ll be able to stay in a beautiful lodge, eat locally grown food prepared by acclaimed chefs and sample a lot of wine. On the tasting tours, you will be driven to several different vineyards to get a sense of the flavors of the area. You’ll also have the option to explore the scenery on horseback, which is a truly memorable experience.

Brazil’s Caipirinha

Heading a bit north, we’ll take you to the warm shores of Rio de Janeiro. The drink of choice here is the caipirinha. It’s the national cocktail and can be found just about anywhere you go in the country. This tasty beverage is made up of Cachaça, sugar and lime. Cachaça is a liquor made from fermented sugar cane and is produced at a rate of nearly 400 million gallons a year. You can enjoy these drinks on any of our tours, but maybe it pairs well with the samba night experience. We take you to a local samba club in the very hip district of Lapa, where you can dance the night away with your favorite person – and cocktail!

Peru’s Pisco (Sour)

In Peru, the drink of choice is undoubtedly the Pisco Sour. Pisco is a grape brandy that tends to take on a yellow to amber color. When combined with lime (or lemon) juice, egg whites, bitters, syrup and ice – Voila! – a Pisco Sour is born. It’s a sweeter drink that goes down easy and is a delightful choice on a nice, summer day. We offer tours through the Pisco vineyards, that allow you to taste the brandy around the area. It’s quite different in its solo form, so be prepared for a complete new flavor.
