Machu Picchu Visit in Photos

Montse at Machu Picchu

Our very own Montse spent 2 days at Machu Picchu, the Inca Capital. We did already highlight her Huayna Picchu hike in an earlier post and will today be sharing the overall experience of a visit to Machu Picchu with Class Adventure Travel. The diversity of this archeological site is so impressive that it will yield memories that last a lifetime.

Enjoy this photo diary of Montse’s visit to Machu Picchu:

Machu Picchu guard house

The view from The Guardhouse is many times descibed as one of the most amazing views of the ancient site and one of the first places that you will visit after entering Machu Picchu. Although the The Guardhouse or Caretaker’s Hut gives a spectacular view of the different levels of the city, the views from higher areas down to the house are as well worth enjoying.

Machu Picchu terraces

Located on top of these Inca terraces and built in the classical style of most Inca cities, the ‘Sacred District’ of the city contains the three most important buildings. The Temple of the Sun, the Room of the Three Winfowns and finally the Intihuatana. The Intihuatana is a giant ritual stone that has been places to point directly at the sun on the longest and shortest days of the year. It’s believed by some scientists to have been used as an early calendar, though the Incas themselves also believed the stone kept the sun in its place.

Machu Picchu sunset

Make sure to get up early to start your Huayna Picchu hike and to also be able to see the sunrise at Machu Picchu. Definitely one of the most impressie moments of your visit to the city. The majority of the Huayna Picchu trail is directly shined on by the sun, an early departure will help to arrive fresh to the top of this interesting peak!

Montse halfway the Huayna Picchu trail, taking a couple of minutes in the shade to enjoy the views of the Urubamba or Willkamayu river. Later she was able to see how the river bends its way through the Sacred Valley.
